Low Noise Block (LNB) Downconverters are typically used in the receive chain of a satellite link. These units convert an relatively high input frequency coming off of the feed horn of a satellite antenna down to an Intermediary L-Band Frequency for input into a Satellite Modem, Demodulator or Receiver. These lower frequencies run through cables with less attenuation, and hence there is more signal left at the equipment receiving the signal. Furthermore, it is easier and cheaper to design the electric circuits to operate at those lower frequencies in comparison to the very high frequencies of satellite transmission.
